In Death Wish, a modifier is activated whenever Hat Kid enters a contract containing challenges or has a Candle active. This modifier is global, affecting enemies, Abilities, Hazards and some other interactions, regardless of level.

This modified is disabled if either Peace and Tranquility or Assist Mode gets enabled.

Cheating

Typing enablecheats into the Developer Console will causes you to take 1 damage instead, followed by a message written into the console by Snatcher who mocks you for trying to circumvent the rules.

There's 4 different messages that can be written which are randomly selected, those are as follows:

"Didn't you read the fine print in your contract? No cheating!"
"Trying to cheat me, eh kid?"
"I write the rules, kiddo. You don't get to change them like that!"
"Now where's the fun in that?"

Enabling cheats is still fine in the Spaceship even if a Candle is active.

Abilities

Brewing Hat

The Hatbrewing.png Brewing Hat projectile deals direct 2 damage, this damage is reduced.

  • Direct hits with concussions deal 1 damage instead of 2 damage.

Fast Hatter Badge

The Badgefasthatter.png Fast Hatter Badge reduces all cooldowns effects by 60%, in Death Wish it reduces the cooldowns less.

  • Fast Hatter Badge reduce cooldowns by 20% instead of 60%.

Projectile Badge

The Badgeprojectile.png Projectile Badge gains a completely different formula that makes it able to deal a maximum of 2 damage, the base attack still deals 1 damage.

Upon firing the damage is rounded down, this means attacking with tier 2 beam attack causes no damage increase.

  • Maximum damage reduced from 3 to 2. Minimum damage remains as 1.
  • Each tier of the beam attack increases damage by 0.5 instead of 1, the final damage is then rounded down when firing.

Hazards

Dweller Fruit

The Dweller Fruit is designed to hit multiple enemies in a large radius, even larger than the hit radius considered for Hat Kid, the enemy radius gets reduced by half.

  • Enemy Hit Radius reduced from 5 meters to 2.5 meters.

Falling Platforms

Any falling platform that hasn't been modified can last for 1 second to start falling down, in Death Wish this delay is capped to 0.33 seconds by multiplying the default 1 second by 33%, this means that if a platform needs 5 seconds, it will instead become 0.33 seconds regardless of set value.

Additionally, they fall 3 meters per second, this is increased by 25%.

  • Delay before falling reduced to 0.33 seconds, unless the specified value is already lower than 0.33 seconds.
  • Falling speed is increased from 3 meters per second to 3.75 meters per second, unless the specified value is already higher than 3.75 meters per second.

Phone Line Sparks

The hazard found on wires in Acts such as Picture Perfect are faster.

  • All Phone Line Sparks move 40% faster.
