According to The Snatcher's contract, it is possessed by Hat Kid's escaped soul after he had snatched it.
Appearance
Toilet of Doom is a brown, wooden outhouse. The door is connected by two metallic hinges and has a heart shape cut out near the top. Its left side has bits of green slime and a pipe bent upwards coming out of it, while the right side has a small waste disposal bucket, filled with white bags. It has four wooden legs, and a short staircase in front of the door. The roof protrudes from the walls. The shape of the outhouse can bend. Inside, two green, slimy spheres can be seen stacked on top of each other, with the larger bottom one having a dotted X shape on its front.
Roles
Toilet of Doom
The boss battle against Toilet of Doom begins after Hat Kid steps into the Arena. The battle is divided into three stages, which progress if the appropriate amount of damage has been dealt to Toilet of Doom:
| Stage | Health (Base) | Health (Boss Rush) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 4 | 2 |
| 2 | 2 | 2 |
| 3 | 5 | 3 |
| Total | 11 | 7 |
The first stage cycles between three attacks on loop:
- Toilet teleports into a random spot, starts spitting green bubbles which can be either empty, contain a Heart Pon or contain a Dweller Fruit. The bubbles quickly pop, and the Dweller Fruit must be carried and thrown at Toilet in order to damage it.
- Toilet jumps around the arena, stomping on the ground and creating expanding shockwaves. It cannot be damaged during this attack.
- Toilet jumps into the central pot with its door open. Several cages with Subcon Dwellers slide across the arena, which must be avoided. Toilet of Doom can be hit by using the Hookshot point above it.
The second stage only contains one attack, which gets more difficult on its second use:
- Toilet moves to a random spot, and either 3 or 6 bubbles (depending on whether the attack has been used previously) appear and orbit above the central pot. One bubble contains a Heart Pon, another a Dweller Fruit, and the rest are empty. The bubbles can be popped by hitting them while using the Hookshot, which either makes the item inside drop, or if its empty, damage Hat Kid. The Dweller Fruit must be thrown at Toilet of Doom in order to damage it.
The third stage cycles between three attacks on loop:
- Three cages appear around the central pot. The Subcon Dwellers inside get absorbed into a Dweller Fruit, massively enlarging it. Toilet of Doom drops down, standing on the enlarged Dweller Fruit (named
CherryOfDoomin the source code.) Hat Kid must get on top of the fruit and hit Toilet of Doom with her Umbrella. If it explodes, it instantly kills Hat Kid regardless of her health. - Toilet jumps around the arena, stomping on the ground and creating expanding shockwaves. After it jumps for the last time, it falls on its back, at which point it can be damaged using the Umbrella.
- Toilet moves to a random spot with its door open. Several cages with Subcon Dwellers slide across the arena, which must be avoided. It can be damaged using the Umbrella.
After depleting its health on the third stage, it explodes and leaves behind a Time Piece.
Boss Rush
Toilet of Doom appears as the third boss in the Boss Rush challenge in Death Wish. In the challenge, its health is lowered from 11 to 7 (see above table).
Development
Toilet of Doom's boss battle used to be merged with The Snatcher's boss battle, where the player would battle them back-to-back. According to Jonas Kærlev that idea was scrapped because "it was almost an hour of gameplay".[1]
The note in Snatcher's contract about Toilet of Doom being possessed by Hat Kid's soul was only added with the release of the Seal the Deal DLC, as it previously only said "Defeat the Boss".[2] According to Jonas Kærlev, it was added to justify the toilet.[1]
