Badge
Badges are equipable items in A Hat In Time. They are used to unlock different abilities or augment existing ones. This means that players are able to create their own play styles, by swapping different badges for different abilities. The badges one has equipped show up on the in-game hat as pins.
About
Most badges are often sold by the Badge Seller for Pons, but some are found out in the world or sold by other characters. While most of them have positive traits, some of them have negative effects for players who want a challenge or purely cosmetic changes.
At the start of her adventure Hat Kid can equip only one badge. To equip multiple badges, one must purchase Badge Pins first. The first pin can be bought after getting 3 Time Pieces, and the second after getting 15, allowing Hat Kid to have up to three badges equipped at a time.

Trivia
- The license plate of Hat Kid's scooter reads "H3T K1D 06."
- Equipping any filter badges together adds a rainbow, wavy, and inverted effect to the screen instead of combining their normal effects.
- The Hover Badge was originally a hat called the Floating Hat. The game still has text and yarn for this hat.[1]
- The badge originally allowed you to float midair and gain height, and the game still had code for this in the release build.
- Badges originally used a "Badge Points" system, identical to yarn in terms of mechanics. Badge Points (or, earlier, Badge Parts) would have to be collected in order to combine them into usable badges, which could be found around the stages instead of being purchased directly from the Badge Seller.
- In fact, the yarn system was built off of this. When collecting yarn, the game still internally calls for how many "Badge Points" are required to stitch a new hat.[1]
- Originally, the Camera Badge and the Hookshot Badge would have been equippable items, but were made into badges after the beta.
- With the previous "item" system, it would have meant they couldn't be used at the same time.
