Uploading Mods Guidelines

From A Hat in Time Wiki

Although you are free to make whatever you want there are (unofficially agreed upon) rules to follow when it comes to uploading mods to the Steam Workshop. Some of these were raised by the developers from Gears for Breakfast due to incidents[Verify] or because they are related to Steam's User Generated Content Guidelines. Anyone who violates one of these rules might expect their mods to be removed from the Steam Workshop.

As long as a mod is created in good faith, it's generally extremely unlikely for someone to violate any of these guidelines, as they are very self explanatory. Regardless, it's good to keep them in mind.

Exclusive Content

  • Do not upload mods containing items that are exclusive for one time event only or Kickstarter rewards like the Speedrun Hat.
  • Do not upload mods containing content that can only be rewarded by owning specific games (such as Stickers from Among Us, Psychonauts 2, Here Comes Niko!)

Malicious Content

  • Do not upload mods with malicious code that damages, interfere with the game, save files or settings.
  • Do not upload mods containing offensive or discriminatory content.
    • Anything racist, sexist, homophobic and so on.
  • You are allowed to mention players/developers from the community in mods but avoid doing so in bad faith.

Limiting Mods

  • If the mod is set to public, do not apply stuff that would limit the usage of the ENTIRE mod to specific users, as this is against the Steam Workshop's Terms of Service. In other words no mod banning to specific users.
  • You can limit some features but not the core feature of the mod while it's Public.
  • If you want the mod to be limited to specific users to be used, please avoid making the mod public and set it to unlisted and share it to these users only.

Other

  • Online Chat mods where the player can write whatever they want aren't allowed, due to lack of moderation.
  • Re-uploads of mods without the permission of the original mod creator.
