Bluefin Tunnel is the third location The Empress directs Hat Kid to. It is symbolized by a blue diamond, and accompanying blue-trimmed trains. The mission focuses on collecting shattered glasspieces, as well as gimmicky train platforming. It also features some minor enemies like the Rats and members of the Lazy Paw Gang.

Summary

The Bluefin Tunnels can be accessed from the Main Station, through an escalator tunnel thing leading into the underground. Hat Kid will need the Green Clean Ticket for it.

Getting into the tunnels, a Holographic Train Track meets Hat Kid's way. She'll have to drop under it into a room with a Lazy Paw Cat, which she could either defeat, or run from.

The Next room is a Train tunnel, with a single train running through, and some gaps inside the 2 walls. Hat Kid will have to utilize those gaps to avoid the Train everytime they get through, while running face first into their direction.

After that, Hat Kid will end up in a corridor under another train track. She'll have to wait for the train to pass, jump up onto the track, then wallrun to some elevated platform with rats. She'll see herself in front of another tunnel track with a single Train. However, this time, she won't have to run into the train's direction, but directly cross it to another room. Here, there is a cat roomba, and in the other side, a high wall. Inside another train track is a puddle of sauce, which Hat Kid can use to lure the cat roomba, and use it to get over the mentioned wall.

After some more gimmicky Train sequences, Hat Kid will end up in a big room, with a glasspiece at the start. The UI will signify that there are a total of 6 around the room, which Hat Kid will need to collect and repair the Timepiece with.

Strategy

  • Going through the Tunnels, many Rats and Lazy Paw Cats can be found.
    • Rats are very easy to deal with, as they only take a single hit before exploding. It is recommended to just spam the umbrella swing, as the sweeping will take out all of them with ease
    • There are two types of Lazy Paw Cats present, one having blue bandanas, and the regular red ones seen in Alpine Skyline.
    • Red Cats could be annoying to deal with, as they're invisible, and will steal either Hat Kid's hat, or her pons, as well as dealing damage. The best way to identify them is by looking for pawprints on the ground, and their slightly opaque silhouette. They only take 1 hit to explode, so swinging right when one get close to Hat Kid should take them out.
    • Blue Cats are a little different, as they don't steal Hat Kid's stuff, nor do they become invisible. They'll tackle Hat Kid, and take a few hits more than the Red Cats do. The best thing to do would be to just treat them as regular enemies, and smack one in the face when you see it.
  • As avoiding trains is utilized greatly, the Timestop or Sprint Hat are recommended, as the timing windows are much larger with them.
    • As always, the Timestop Hat should always be paired with the Fast Hatter Badge.
  • Scattered glasspieces should be easy to detect, as they illuminate a bright halo.
    • Collecting them should't be difficult, either. Though, the ones behind running trains could be challenging for certain people.
    • If you're struggling with timing the trains, the timestop hat is recommended.
    • If you don't have the Timestop Hat however, an alternative would be the Sprint Hat, or simply diving.

Music

  • Bluefin Tunnels - The track that plays throughout Bluefin Tunnel.
    • This track contains The Empress` leitmotif, as well as Nyakuza Metro`s.
    • A synthwave variant of this track will play when Hat Kid is on top of a train.
  • The Empress - A fancy song, utilizing traditional Japanese string as the primary instrument. It plays when Hat Kid is inside Le Felin at the start of the act.

Diary Entry

After each mission, Hat Kid will express her thoughts in her diary, which can be found inside her pillow fort.

"These tunnels are kinda spooky! They're all dark, and then a big cat comes whooshing along it..."

"There was a smashed up timepiece down here too, but I had to give it over like the rest. Grr...."

Trivia

  • Strangely, Bluefin Tunnel is the only color-coded station that does not have a manhole, making it the only area in Nyakuza Metro to only contain a single timepiece.
    • There is unused hint dialogue from the Empress for a Bluefin Manhole, meaning that it could have been removed during development.[1]
