The Lava Cake

From A Hat in Time Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Lava Cake is one of the four mountain peaks featured in Alpine Skyline. Titularly, it is a mountain-sized, multilayered cake, made of lava. Clearly a safe place for a child to be in.

Summary

At the start is a small platforming sequence with rising pillars, which will lead to a cannon. Getting into it, Hat Kid will get launched to the cake.

Inside the cake are many rising pillars and flamethrowers, which Hat Kid will have to platform through to advance to the upper layers. She'll also encounter many Fire Crows, as well as hookpoints.

After platforming through 5 layers, the Timepiece can be found.

Collectibles

The Lava Cake is an act belonging to the chapter Alpine Skyline. Due to its nature of being a vast, open world, many items can be found all around. A list of every available collectibles up on Alpine Skyline can be found here

Strategy

  • Being centered around rising pillars, it could be annoying to deal with their cycles.
  • For this, the Sprint Hat or Timestop Hat is recommended. As speed is a great counter against cycles.
  • Try your best to not let Hat Kid fall into the lava, as there aren't many heart pons, healing would be difficult.
  • Many burning fish will flop out of the lava and launch themselves high up. They are hazards, which will damage Hat Kid. So take them in mind, and try your best to not let Hat Kid touch them.

Music

  • The Lava Cake - The track that plays when Hat Kid is platforming up the cake.
    • This track contains a leitmotif from the start of Heating up Mafia Town.

Diary Entry

After each mission, Hat Kid will express her thoughts into her diary, which can be found inside her pillow fort.

"so hot. too sweaty to write properly. why is there a cake made of lava?????

"i hope the next time piece fell somewhere cold."

Trivia

  • The Lava Cake was originally designed for the cut chapter "Sand and Sails".
  • This mission's diary entry is the only one to not have any punctuation at all. This is because, as stated by Hat Kid herself, the cake's environment took a toll on her, so much so that she can't even write properly. Poor child.
  • The diary entry also hints toward "somewhere cold". As this was before Seal the Deal (DLC), it likely is a reference to the chapter The Arctic Cruise.
